About Buccaneers

Welcome to Buccaneers Baby and Pre-school Swimming! Ages 0-4 years.

Brought to you by WJB Swim (Lincolnshire) we are pleased to announce that we are now offering classes from birth upwards.

Come and join us as we introduce you and your little one  to the wonderful world of swimming in a gentle and fun way, building confidence and instilling water safety.

We currently run Buccaneers classes at 8 of our pools. They are all warm pools (31 degrees +) and shallow.

Do I have to dunk or submerge my child?
We practice a child led approach to any form of submersion and we will not force you to do anything that you or your child are uncomfortable with.

Do I have to get in the pool too?
Yes, these sessions are for parents/carers to learn and have fun together with their child. It’s a brilliant bonding opportunity too.

Do I need to be able to swim to take my baby/child?
There is no need to worry if you cannot swim, all the sessions will be held where adults can safely stand.  If you are less confident in water you can always contact our staff in complete confidence to talk through any worries before starting.

Does my baby need to have had their first set of vaccinations?
You can take your baby swimming at any age, both before and after they have been vaccinated.  It does not matter if they have not yet completed their course of vaccinations.
Babies sometimes experience side effects after a vaccination.  These are generally quite mild and should not stop you taking your baby swimming.
However, babies who are feverish, irritable in the days or weeks after a vaccination may not feel up to swimming for a few days, so you may prefer to wait.

Will my child need a special swim nappy?
Babies should, until they have been potty trained for 6 months, wear specialised neoprene nappies over a disposable or reusable swim nappy, creating this double nappy system helps to prevent leakage in the pool.

Does my child need to have a warm swim suit or wet suit?

For Baby and Pre-school swimming the water and air temperature must be higher than for normal public swimming. This is why we have chosen our pools very carefully.  Some babies feel the cold more so you may wish to purchase a wrap or wetsuit to keep them warm. Remember they still need the double nappy system underneath.
